On the Bolton Departure

The dismissal of John Bolton as National Security Adviser to President Trump has been attributed to disagreements between Mr. Bolton and the president. LPR wonders, however, if Mr. Bolton's dismissal was inevitable after the appearance of an article, in the The New Yorker magazine, last May, that had a former Bolton aide wondering "'how he [Bolton] goes into work every day, because deep in his heart he believes the President is a moron.'"

There The New York Times Goes Again

Hurricane Dorian was a calamity for the Bahamas. The New York Times could not resist putting this tragedy to anti-Trump purpose, by highlighting. in articles and an editorial the (mistaken) warning by the president that the hurricane was headed to strike part of Alabama.

Rosh Hashanah

The Jewish New Year will be celebrated on September 30 and October 1. Happy 5780, everybody.

President Zelensky at the UN

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky will make his first official trip to the U.S., September 23 to speak before the UN General Assembly. It would not surprise LPR if Mr. Zelensky proposes a plan to resolve the conflict in the Donbas. His visit offers the opportunity, also, for his first meeting with President Trump.

East Rutherford, New York?

MetLife Stadium, located in East Rutherford, New Jersey is the home field to two teams in the National Football League: the New York Jets and the New York Giants. East Rutherford is in New Jersey, eight miles west of New York City. LPR believes that New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy should demand that the NFL designate the teams as the New Jersey Jets and the New Jersey Giants. The Buffalo Bills, located in Buffalo, New York, defeated the Jets 17-16, in MetLife Stadium, September 8, and, September 15, the Bills beat the Giants at the stadium, 28-14. The headline of the story for the Bills's win over the Giants read: "For the 2-0 Bills, New Jersey/Is a Delightful Place to Visit." The headline might equally have said: For the sole New York team in the NFL/ New Jersey is a Delightful Place to Visit. Go Bills.

A Question for the Democratic Debate

There were seven gun killings and 52 wounded in Chicago the week-end after the El Paso and Dayton massacres. This year, as of August 25, there are 330 homicides in Chicago. Do you have any ideas on how to deal with inner-city gun violence?

Victor Davis Hanson

LPR strongly recommends the Victor Davis Hanson article at National Review on-line, "Trump--or What, Exactly?, " for an incisive examination of the significance of many aspects of the Trump presidency. that the leftist media does not want the public to consider. Just google "Victor Davis Hanson" and click to the article.

Broadway Show League

LPR congratulates "Beautiful, " the Effrat Division champion; Fault Line Theatre, the Lewin Division champion, and Jujamcyn Theaters; the Koehler Division champion. This softball league's tournament is double elimination. Beautiful defeated Hamilton in one game, 10-8. Fault Line took two games from "Mormon," 12-9, and 7-3. Jujamcyn lost its first game against Actors Equity, 10-4, but came back to win the second game, 7-5.

Rory McIlroy

LPR congratulates Rory McIlroy on winning his second Fedex Cup August 25, in the final round of the Tour Championship along with check for $15 million. (This is golf's largest payout.) Xander Schauffle was second and Brooks Koepka third. McIlroy moved up to second place in world rankingsm passing Dustin Johnson who dropped to third. Koepka is still No. 1.

(By the way, the 13th edition of the President's Cup will be played in Melbourne, Australia, December 12-15. Ernie Els is captain of the international team and Tiger Woods (No. 8 in world rankings) is captain of the U.S. team.)

A Cautionary Note Concerning a President From the Left?

"Given the left's vicious self-righteousness, on display daily in the media, the question becomes whether it will accept any limits in its quest to impose its views on everyone--especially if it gains control of the government's coercive interests." F.H. Buckley, The Wall Street Journal, August 30, 2019.
