The One -Party U.S. Senate System in California

October 5, 2019 --

U.S. Senator Kamala Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez for the the California senate seat, in 2016. Both candidates are Democrats. The California primary for U.S. Senate lumps all parties together and the top two voter-getters win nomination in the general election. In view of the huge Democratic majority in the state, a Republican is not likely to run in the general election for some time to come.

LPR sees this as using democracy to destroy the two-party system in California.

By the way, The Wall Street Journal, last July said that Sen. Harris was the presidential "candidate to beat." Currently, according to one poll, she draws three percent of voters.
