Patrick Henry Did Not Cry Out: “Give me oppression or give me death”

August 5, 2017 --

As we begin to unravel the curious performance of James Comey and the FBI on Russiagate, LPR would like congressional Republicans to explain why they accepted FBI passivity concerning IRSgate,  which succeeded, as William McGurn pointed out in his July 25 Wall Street Journal column, in keeping conservative groups from being "a factor in the 2012 election."

A letter-writer, also in the July 25 Journal, asserted that the Russians sought to " undermin[e] Americans' faith in the election process."   What was IRSgate if not the successful attempt by the Obama administration simply to undermine  the 2012 election.

Note --the utter indifference in the media when the left cheats in politics.  Marc Ambinder introduced pro-Hillary Clinton propaganda in article about her in “The Atlantic”; Glenn Thursh let John Podesta, Clinton’s campaign manager, vet his piece on…John Podesta.   Theodore H. White, in The Making of the President 1960, wrote that rporters covering the Kennedy campaign “were marching like soldiers of the Lord to the New Frontier.” Today, the media has become an army, acting on orders from Hillary Clinton and her generals

Consider, too, The Clintons can till the political dirt  for material -- whether true of false -- no problem.  Clinton can tilt the playing field against her competition in the Democrat party; can get debate questions in advance -- no problem.  No undermining of the democratic process when a favored democrat does the undermining.

What, for example, was IRSgate – denying tax waivers to conservative groups – if not collusion between the previous administration and its agencies to undermine the 2012 election? Are Republicans to accept domestic collusion for purpose of barring them from political power?

It is as if the Department of Justice grants a waiver to any group willing to ignore "the rule of law"  provided the motive is maintain the Old Order in power, and democratic institutions be damned.

And so: "the rule of law" has become one weapon in the hands of the left -- to be unleashed  for purposes of  mendaciously and maliciously discrediting political figures opposed to what Madison, in Federalist No. 57, called the "ambitious sacrifice of the many to the aggrandizement of the few.”

A second weapon in the hands of the left: free speech.. This freedom is used by the left to justify vicious attacks on Republicans. Should anyone criticize the left, the cry of “hate speech” fills the media air. Liberty, for the left, is the power to determine, as to all of society, what the rule of law is, what free speech is. As to these concept, for the left, there are no bounds. For the rest: strict and unrelenting regulation.
