Populism Is For Liberty

FEBRUARY 18, 2008 --

Tony Snow, writing  in the February issue of "Townhall" asserted "Populism is for losers." He continued: It begins with the assumption that life is largely rotten, and that it's someone else's fault."   Mr. Snow further indicated that populism thrives in bad economic times and that populists are "churls."

Curiously, Mr. Snow never gave us his definition of populism.

LPR recommends that someone call Federalist 57 to the attention of Mr. Snow. And also Lincoln's concluding words at Gettysburg.

The idea of our Founders, as expressed  by Madison in Federalist 57 and, later, Lincoln, was to establish populist government -- based on freedom and fairness.

Or would Mr. Snow now dismiss the Founders and Abe Lincoln as "churls"?
