The Inspector General's (Viral-deserving) Report on James B. Comey

September 5, 2019 --

Justice Department Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz sharply criticized former FBI Director James B. Comey for violating FBI and department policy on handling and disclosing sensitive information.

Among other things, the 61-page report, released August 29, rejected Comey's claim that memos he wrote about his meetings with President Trump were his personal property. Further, the report did not accept Comey's explanation that he arranged the leak of one memo to The New York Times with the goal of getting a Special Counsel named to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 presidential campaign and whether there was coordination between Russians and individuals in the Trump campaign.

The report was referred to the Justice Department which declined to take further action.

In part, the report's conclusion states: "In a country built on the rule of law, it is of utmost importance that all FBI employees adhere to Department and FBI policies, particularly when confronted by what appear extraordinary circumstances or compelling personal convictions."

The conclusion pointed out that Comey "was not permitted" to engage in the "unauthorized disclosure of sensitive information obtained during the course
of FBI employment to achieve a personally desired outcome."

The American people must await the findings of additional reports to determine if the goal of Russiagate was, originally, to help defeat Mr. Trump's presidential bid and, thereafter, to discredit his presidency with the ultimate aim of removing him from office.

LPR recommends that the text of the report on the former FBI director go viral. LPR wouild advise the White House to let the report on Comey, and all further reports concerning Russiagate, speak for themselves.
