LPR Explains Robert M. Gates

April 1, 2014 --

Former bi-partisan administration official Robert M. Gates, writing in The Wall Street Journal, March 26, noted that Putin "deeply resents the West for winning the Cold War." LPR believes that Mr. Gates resents Putin for refusing to submit to Washington's notions of democracy in the manner of the defeated Germany and Japan, after the Second World War. (It is unfortunate, LPR avers, that Mr. Gates is quoted, in The New York Times review of his book "Duty: Memoirs of a Secretary at War" --"'This White House's word means nothing.'"

Compare Putin, March 18, announcing Russia's annexation of Crimea: "[The West] lied to us many times, made decisions behind our backs, placed us before an accomplished fact. This happened with NATO's expansion to the East, as well as the deployment of military infrastructure at our borders....")
