MARCH 11, 2008 --
Writing in "The Semi-Sovereign People," Professor Schattschneider argued that we are accustomed to universal change; it is relative change he called "painful."
Prof. Schattschneider wondered, for example, of the effect on society if "the automobile... had become the exclusive possession of a privileged class...." (Holt, Rhinehart and Winston paperback, p.127.)
LPR was reminded about Prof. Schattschneider's point on "painful" change as gas prices skyrocket (by manipulation?).
|
What, apart from predatory inflation, will be the impact on society when gas prices rise so high, only the the upper classes will be able to afford commuting by auto?
Certainly not the common good, LPR opines. Where are leaders who stand by us, not tell us how great they will be whether or not they win elections?
More on this, next LPR.
