Senior Fears?

MARCH 2, 2008 --

Some well known phrases of political rhetoric have gotten renewed attention, this campaign season, mainly because they were used by Senator Obama who did not mention they were also used recently by Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, one of the senator's national chairmen.

One of the quotes came from President Franklin D. Roosevelt --"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."

For this writer, as already indicated, the fear is financial flatlining, and the anxiety at this possibility is not a word -- it is a shakiness that at times is all too palpable.

Perhaps the anxiety would be greater if there were no LPR, if the anxiety could not be communicated to others.

And, yes, perhaps the anxiety would be a bit lesser if a presidential candidate carried the banner of Federalist 57, if credit card usury were denounced by the pols who will be okay regardless of the outcome of the presidential race, and if one did not have to fear his  car would be towed if it were driven in New York City.

(Please see "Gotcha City", last LPR.)
