Shopping for Justice

DECEMBER 19, 2006 --

A "Shopping for Justice" March was held on Fifth Avenue, December 16.

LPR was in the vicinity of the gathering point of the march, Fifth Avenue and 60th Street and hurriedly got some photos before the march began.

The march, organized by Rev,. Al Sharpton and Rev. Calvin O. Butts, pastor of the Abyssinian Baptist Church, among
others community leaders, was a response to the death of Sean Bell, killed by police, firing some 50 bullets, three weeks ago.

The day was the fourth birthday of one of Bell's children.

The starting point was just a block or two from … Bergdorf Goodman. These photos were taken near the statue of General William T. Sherman, whose Civil War "March through Georgia" contributed to the Union defeat and end of the Confederacy. Sherman is famous for his comment: "War is hell." Today, he might be cited for war crimes.
