Remove All Names for Sports Teams?

July 1, 2014 --

Previously, LPR suggested that the Washington football franchise in the National Football League (NFL) be renamed the Washington Rainbow. There is a movement underway among some sportwriters and media outlets to drop "Redskins" in reports about the team. What if Democrats soon object to Cincinnati Reds as having the effect of promoting Republicans?

On reflection, LPR suggests that team names be dropped entirely and that teams be referred to only by geographical location.

This would require, of course, that the NFL team now called the New York Giants have its designation changed to New Jersey, for the state where the team plays its home games.

By the way, where are the polls asking Redskin fans if they want to drop the team's name, and asking fans of the other National Football League teams if they would boycott their team's games against the Washington Redskins?
