MARCH
19, 2006 --
LPR
must have had the luck of the Irish, March 17, finding parking
spots to get some photos of New York City's annual St. Patrick's
Day Parade.
The parade proceeds two miles up Fifth Avenue, starting a few blocks above
42nd Street Day and ending at 86th Street.
LPR began taking photos, this sunny, brisk, St. Pat's day, on Fifth Avenue,
below 42nd Street, looking north to the parade and the trees of Central Park
about a mile away.
On Madison Avenue, LPR managed to
park -- without getting a ticket, and got a photo of a parade First Vice President,
and photos of some of the marching bands, including the Kingston (NY) Tigers
and Patrick Henry High School from San Diego California.
Driving up Madison Avenue, LPR stopped at 52nd Street, behind St. Patrick's
Cathedral, and got a photo of the green line on Fifth Avenue that traditionally
follows the parade route, and one of a unit from the Port Authority goes past
the cathedral.
LPR continued up Madison Avenue (one block east of Fifth Avenue) and found
a legal parking spot just above 86th Street.
LPR, including Shana, walked to Fifth Avenue and got photos of several groups
as they neared the end of their march, including bagpipers from Manhattan College,
and a contingent of young girls in elaborate dresses.
The bands played gloriously, the dancers performed brightly, and the marchers
marched smartly.
The spirit of the day equaled the weather -- happily sunny. (And Shana drew
some attention and compliments at her first St. Patrick's Day Parade.)
