A Supreme Court Nominee American
as Apple Pie

October 5, 2020 --

United States Seventh Circuit Court Judge Amy Coney Barrett should have no difficulty getting confirmed by the Senate and before the election, too.   That is not to say she will get the 98 - 0 vote that confirmed Justice Antonin Scalia 34 years ago.  (Judge Barrett clerked for Justice Scalia.)

LPR expects however that Judge Barrett will get the Republican votes she needs for confirmation.   The long knives of Democrats, perhaps even Never-Trumpers, are already being sharpened, but considering her first-in-class standing, the incisive reasoning of her opinions, and the appearance she makes, there is no way LPR can see the left succeeding in trashing this nominee.

LPR rather has a hunch that the agents of despicable attack will themselves be tarnished by a vicious, deceitful campaign against Judge Coney Barrett like the one that defeated the nomination to the high court of Justice Robert H. Bork in 1987.

Among other things, the left can't link Judge Coney Barrett to the  1973 "Saturday Night Massacre," itself a vicious piece of anti-Nixon propaganda.  (After all, who died in that so-called massacre?

No one. Indeed, no one had even a hair touched. An early instance of successful fake news.)  With this nomination, the U.S. finally has compensation for the systemic partisanship of the left that blocked confirmation of a brilliant jurist by a scurrilous, mendacious, grievously unfair, attack.

President Trump has proved that he is second to no president in selecting United States judges.  It is to be hoped that people on the fence will grasp the reality that the president's superb record of nominating judges who will interpret the law, not make laws from the bench, will go by the wayside in a very few years if he is not re-elected.
