"The Tainted Election"

December 19, 2016 --

New York Times columnist Paul Krugman, in his December 12 column, declared Donald J. Trump's victory over Hillary Clinton "a tainted election," and added: "...the result was nonetheless illegitimate in important ways: the victor was rejected by the public, and won the Electoral College only thanks to foreign intervention and grotesquely inappropriate partisan behavior on the part of domestic law enforcement." He continued: "The question now is what to do with that horrifying knowledge in the months and years ahead."

Krugman did not call for the overthrow of the president-elect -- he wrote that "the result won't be overturned" -- but concluded the column with this pronouncement: "This election was an outrage, and we should never forget it."

LPR has an idea that Krugman very much wants to see the election result "overturned." How would this be accomplished? LPR is certain The New York Times would be elated by a presidential order nullifying Trump's victory because of unspecified foreign intervention. Can President Obama issue such an order? Didn't Mr. Obama issue an executive order on immigration on grounds he was tired of waiting for Congress to act, grounds that The New York Times backed?

How far is the left prepared to see the USA transformed into a banana republic? Where the left is concerned, unsubstantiated assertions are the equivalent of facts. This, of course, is what the McCarthyism of the 1950's was all about.

Back then, The New York Times stood firm against McCarthyism. Today, it proudly carries high the banner of Neo-McCarthyism. Back then, on relevision, Edward R. Murrow led the fight against McCarthyism.

Today, George Stephanopoulos, John Dickerson, Chuck Todd on Sunday morning tv talk programs, are prominent figures in the New McCarthyism, demanding that their perceived political enemies follow the leftist script -- or get pilloried.

LPR expects that The New York Times and The Washington Post have already drafted front page editorials demanding that the House of Representatives impeach, and the U.S. Senate remove from office, President-elect Donald J. Trump, should he take the oath of office, January 20. LPR would not be surprised if the left organized boycotts against all states whose electors voted for President-elect Trump -- until he is thrown out of office.

Don't think that the left is less hostile to political adversaries other than Donald J. Trump. During the 2012 election campaign, The New York Times ran editorials calling Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney a liar, incompetent, ignorant, extremist. In 2012, the Times had no need of maintaining its anti-Romney stance. Romney lost to President Obama. This year, the left has merely upped its hatred for its perceived political enemies , effectively declaring that a Republican president is not to be tolerated, that the election of a Republican president is illegitimate, per se. Yes, the left is engaged, this post-election period, in delegitimizing the votes of the American people, November 8. We can expect little else from the anti-democratic left. It is our responsibility to honor James Madison's belief in our continued commitment to liberty and support the president we elected.

Note to President-elect Trump: LPR would of course like, but cannot expect, that Republicans such as Sen. Mitch McConnell will stand with you, with us, to confront the political intolerance of the left. Know that, trusting in God, we stand with you in defense of freedom, and, this Chanukah/Christmas season, may God continue to bless America.
