MAY
1, 2004 --
LPR photographed
two smiling Boston Red Sox fans outside Yankee Stadium, before
the start of the April 25 game, won by Manny Ramirez’ home
run. Before the game, LPR photographed Ramirez whose family members,
reportedly including his sister, were not permitted to stand hear
the Press Gate in pre-game time. The family was required to stay
among Yankee fans watching their favorite players arrive. The Yankee
fans were a lot more cordial to the family than was Yankee management.
On April 29,
LPR shouted to Jeff Greenfield, of CNN, and Greenfield looked towards
the LPR camera, clearly wondering who had shouted his name. Readers
should note there is no 15 minute wait to enter by the Press Gate.
On the 29th, LPR got a picture of Yankee pitcher Mariano Rivera
going to work (with cell phone held to ear). Earlier that day,
LPR saw Tim Robbins pitching in the Broadway Show League game between
Embedded and 42nd Street -- won by 42nd Street. LPR readers are
encouraged to go to the league website: www.broadwayshowleague.com --
for results, standings and other information about the league.
Robbins was losing pitcher, but he played gallantly.
The league had
a season opening party in conjunction with an independent film
and music festival, and LPR spent the rest of the week attending
festival events, taking pictures. April 26 there was a party before
the independent film, "The Brewster Project," starring
Mr. Cheeks, shown with Briege McGarrity, festival publicity director,
and Stuart Alson, executive founder/director.
LPR saw Dugen,
alternative/punk at April 27. Dugen is from Old Town, near Bangor,
Maine. The group practices after work every day, and plans to make
music forever. Next day, LPR went to the performance given by Entity,
a hard rock group from Williamsport, ME. April 29, LPR saw Annette
Harris, from Albany, NY (jazz) and, later, Kooke, a hip hop group
from Minneapolis. Friday afternoon, a troupe from Meriden, CT (Zeria)
played to a full house and got a tremendous reception for its choreographed
hip hop numbers. That afternoon, LPR also saw a fine pop singer/guitarist
Kitty Hawk and a very perky California-based Mexican-American singer,
Carmen Lopez.
Some 300 individuals
and groups were listed on the music festival program, which ran
at Cinema East, Second Avenue and 12th Street, from April 23 to
the May 2 closing party -- along with the independent film festival
performers were given a 15 minute showcase, with the festival and,
indeed, the city, providing opportunities for networking.
