A True Story

DECEMBER 19, 2004 --

LPR learned to its dismay, December 16, that roadways in New York State are about as pothole-marked as roadways in New York City.

Previously, LPR reported how New York City potholes caused a bubble in a tire on the LPRmobile, requiring a replacement tire.

Well, New York State's potholes on route 22, above Brewster (and also not very far from a state trooper's office) wreaked even more havoc, requiring replacement of a rim along with the tire.

LPR learned the next day, in Torrington, Connecticut, that a new rim would not be available until the following Monday. Thereupon, LPR (through the kind help of
Susan at Capuano Cadillac) rented an SUV with Connecticut license plate 777 SDZ.

Noticing the plate in the afternoon -- with this writer's initials and that of his father, Sol, a numbers wager was placed on 777.

As the numbers were stated, the person at the counter advised that 777 had already been the Connecticut mid-day number for this day. And had the
number been played on time, it would have covered much of the cost of the rim.

Perhaps an incentive for LPR to pursue the matter of the destroyed tire and rim with New York state -- or encouragement to leave New York State for Connecticut?

LPRmobile believes this New York route 22 pothole is the one that destroyed its right front tire and rim
December 16.

Another Route 22 trap that doesn't make driving easier.
