President Trump called Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, July 25, to congratulate him on the success of Ukraine's parliamentary election, held July 21.

President Zelensky's Servant of the People party is said to have gained 60% of the seats in parliament with final results to be announced by August 9. President Trump was said to have expressed confidence in Mr. Zelensky's reform program, including his efforts to fight corruption and improve Ukraine's image.

President Zelensky thanked Mr. Trump for continuing the sanctions policy against Russia. It is expected that the two leaders will meet in Washington in August or September.

President Zelensky was earlier reported to have called for the U.S. and the United Kingdom to join the talks on ending the conflict in eastern Ukraine. Until now, the parties have been Ukraine, Russia, Germany and France.
