Two Manhattan Parades

APRIL 18, 2007 --

Easter

It was spring, but hardly spring-like, on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue, Easter Sunday, this year. The wintry air did not, however, keep the colorful, elaborate (and sometimes downright bizarre) Easter millinery away.

While stopped in traffic on Madison Avenue, LPR caught sight of Cardinal Egan getting into a car, and got this hurried image of His Eminence. (LPR notes that Cardinal Egan, and his
predecessor, Cardinal O'Connor, were parodied, regularly, on the Imus program.

These parodies did keep Catholics from going on the program. LPR, furthermore, is not aware of any criticism from the
Imus critics of the regular parody of Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez.

Could Karl Rove have somehow manipulated Imusgate to get the program's anti-Iraq war views off the air?)

The Tartan Day Parade

Thanks to the NYC weekly events calendar posted by Gemini and Scorpio, LPR learned about, and went to, the Ninth Annual Tartan Day Parade, April 15.

And a glorious parade -- and day -- it was, with one pipe and drum band after another, among the groups marching up the Sixth Avenue parade route, from 43rd street to 58th street.

The parade's first grand marshal was the actor Cliff Robertson. Grand marshals have included Sean Connery. Grand marshal this year was Rt. Hon. George
Reid, presiding officer of the Scottish Parliament.

Spectators, outside the Fox network, on Sixth Avenue, included animal rights and "24" (the Fox series) protesters.
