Two Terrific Talks

NOVEMBER 20, 2007 --

Bravo to M. Sarkozy for expressing pride in the American spirit, in his speech, earlier this month, to a joint meeting of Congress. Predictably, the speech got passing notice in places like The New York Times and The Washington Post. As others have noted, pointing out that America tradition encourages individual initiative not entitlement claims, the French president sounded more Reaganesque that any current Republican president.

Indeed, now that we are in the final 12 months of the presidential campaign, it is to be expected that the candidates will strive to outdo each other in offering the voters … entitlements.

As The Wall Street Journal joins "liberals" in moving away from the people, Republicans follow Democrats in moving away from Reaganism.  Time for a party of the people, anybody?

And good job, Joe Lieberman for pointing out, at Johns Hopkins that Democrats seem to be more interested in opposing President Bush than in working, in bipartisan cooperation, on national security issues.

If President Sarkozy gave a Reaganesque speech; you gave, LPR believes, a Limbaugh-like lecture.  There is, of course, no threat to you from Senate Democrats; they need you to hold their Senate majority.
