MAY 14, 2006 --

Usually, when parked cars are not seen on side streets, the indication is that a movie or TV program is on location. May 18, LPR noticed that "The Nanny Diaries," -- cast including Scarlett Johansson and Alicia Keys -- was shooting on 83rd
Street, between Lexington Avenue and Park Avenue (just around the corner from GR photo shop -- where I bring my rolls of film in NYC to be developed).

LPR noticed "The Nanny Diaries" filming in NYC recently.

An empty West 47th Street.

Two days later, on West 47th Street LPR noticed the absence of cars on the street, between Ninth and Tenth Avenues.

No parking ban on the street was apparent to LPR -- at least on one side of the street.

In the distance the street fair on Ninth Avenue is in progress. On that -- street fairs and cars do not mix -- the fairs winning out every time.

Ninth Avenue on May 20.

Heading back east on 46th Street, LPR took a quick photo of the Ninth Avenue street fair -- noticing only when the print was developed that among the pedestrians was a person with a plastic bag filled with empty aluminum cans -- the current version of selling apples during the Great Depression, perhaps. Some people might point to those cans as sign that soda sales indicate a thriving economy --
until the soda- ban movement gathers steam, of course.
