An Open Cri de Coeur to Victor Davis Hanson

September 10, 2021 --

Sir,

You are a leading voice of sanity in these times.  Your critiques of the left are detailed and comprehensive.  And yet, with respect to youe recent comments in American Greatness on the Ukraine-related impeachment of President Trump, and the false account in Impeachment II of the cause of the death of Office Brian Sicknick, you should, I think, have directed some criticism at the GOP and at conservatives.

Republicans did not press hard enough -- did they press at all ?-- Zelensky's comment during the July 25, 2019 phoner with President Trump that he agreed "100%" with Mr. Trump that Yovanovitich (spelled "Ivanovich" in the transcript) "was a bad ambassador."  I don't recall a Republican calling this to the attention of Amb. Yovanovitch during her testimony.

President Zelensky continued, "Her attitude towards me was far from the best as she admired the previous president and she was on his side. She would not accept me as a new President well enough."  Why didn't the GOP shout this criticism to the rafters?

It was impeachment hearing-malpractice for the GOP not to have called this to the attention of 1) Yovanovitch and 2) Schiff and company.   As it was majority-control malpractice for the Republicans, in 2017, to let the Democrats get away with a special counsel to investigAte the newly-elected president based on what The New York Times likes to call, when directed at Donald J. Trump, "baseless claims."

You mentioned the lie about the death of Office Sickwick.  I have yet to see a conservative with easy access to the media fault The New York Times for going with the "baseless claim"  about his death at the hands of "the Jan. 6 mob, " without checking for the hospital he would have been taken to, and the physician who would have  signed the death certificate which would have stated cause of death.  This is double journalistic malpractice: certainly on the part of the Times, but also on the part of conseervatives -- in the media and in Congress.

Thank you for your service in the cause of maintaining our legacy of liberty -- and I hope you agree that nothing serves this cause as much as people, particularly GOP officeholders, with the courage to apply common sense, precisely expressed, against the lying propaganda of those neo-fascist democrats -- antifa, ha!, they are philo-fascists , in the mold of their favorite son, Ortega the Ogre of Nicaragua, whose brutal dictatorship is ooutline, of all places, in The New York Times, September 6.

Yours in freedom for 5782,
