VOTE - Viewing Outside The Event
~ Yankee Stadium ~

APRIL 10, 2005 --

The temperature reading at a nearby sign was 46 degrees, at game time, but outside Yankee Stadium, April 3rd, it felt a lot colder than that.

The Yankees were at home against the Boston Red Sox for the 2005 season opener, and on hand were famed bandleader Skitch Henderson, CBS News correspondent Mike Wallace, and Saturday Night Live chief Lorne Michaels.

LPR also spotted former Gov. Mario Cuomo, Tony Danza, Lorraine Bracco and Bill O'Reilly on hand for the chilly opening game (won by the Yankees, 9-2).

LPR spoke briefly with City Council Speaker A. Gifford Miller, before the game, about plans for the west side
stadium. Mr. Miller indicated his doubts that the stadium will be constructed and wondered why it is not getting built in Queens, where, he suggested, it would
have wide support.

Mr. Miller also told LPR that he did not meet with the Evaluation Commission of the International Olympics Committee on its visit to New York City, in February.

Jaret Wright before his first start for the Yankees, April 8. Wright got slammed about as hard from The New York Times as from the Baltimore Orioles. (Wright left the game in the fifth inning, giving up 6 earned runs to the Orioles. The Yankees lost 12 - 5.) Times writer Jack Curry had Wright imagining that he would pitch "superbly" and get "his first rousing ovation in the Bronx." Mr. Curran then reported that fans booed
Wright when he left the game. Is there a new journalism course called Conjecture and Speculation as Part of Straight Reporting?
