VOTE: Viewing Outside The Event:
Yankees-Red Sox at Yankee Stadium

OCTOBER 17, 2004 --

LPR took a lot of photos viewing outside the event, at Yankee Stadium. October 11, 12 and 13.

Unfortunately, LPR did not snap a photo of Kurt Schilling going to the Stadium October 11 (workout day) because this ace Red Sox pitcher had a protective brace on his right foot, and LPR was not certain a Red Sox player would be heading to a workout with an apparent injury. The obvious lesson -- snap, and then verify.

back from the Yankee parking lot to the Red Sox bus.

October 11, LPR took some photos of a Rolls Royce in pinstripes and bearing signatures of many Yankees. The car is up for e-Bay auction.

On October 12, LPR caught Yankee outfielder Hideki Matsui eagerly walking to the ballpark, and Derek Jeter, turning back to greet Yankee boss George Steinbrenner.

While the game was on, LPR noticed a traffic jam on 161st Street -- caused, apparently, not by people desperate for parking, but by a tow-truck hooking up a
car right outside the Stadium. (The following night, LPR obsevered many not-towed double-parked cars a few blocks from the ballpark.)

LPR got back to the press gate to see that Jack Nicholson had stepped outside
for a cigarette (smoking is not permitted in Yankee Stadium) and quickly tried to get a photo of the actor.

After the game, LPR photographed a
perhaps-surprised Rev. Al Sharpton, and then noticed that he and his attorney wore matching pinstripe suits, white stripe on dark cloth.

LPR was surprised to learn that the Red Sox rallied to make an 8-0 score 8-5 and then 8-7. The roar of the crowd can be heard outside the ballpark -- but at the
Stadium this roar sounds only for the Yankees.

The crowd could not be heard at the press gate when the Red Sox were closing the gap-despite not-insignificant numbers of Red Sox fans at the game.

Politicians at the October 12 game included George Pataki and Mayor Bloomberg. (Pataki, it should be
noted, is still governor of New York.)

Celebs, not shown here, included from The Sopranos' cast James Gandolfini, and Tony Danza, John McEnroe, and Penny
Marshall. A strong media presence stayed at the press gate as the game got underway for the arrival of Mariano Rivera, returning from funerals in Panama of two family members apparently electrocuted in his swimming pool.

Soon after the great Yankee relief pitcher arrived, at about 8.45 p.m. the media departed, LPR maintaining its VOTE vigil.

Next evening, LPR got a photo of Donald Trump as he told a WCVB (Boston) reporter that Yankee fans would rattle Pedro Martinez, pitching for Boston , and he would lose the game. (LPR does not know if the jeers of Yankee fans bothered the great Red Sox hurfler, but he was the losing pitcher as the Yankees went to
Boston with a 2-0 lead in thisbest of seven series.)

LPR also spotted --not pictured-- Steve Forbes - -flat tax proponent, and Don Hewitt, retired boss at 60 Minutes, going to the VIP entrance. Mr. Hewitt went
right to the head of the line, as did Bill O'Reilly, here fuzzily pictured. It was after snapping this photo that LPR learned of the O'Reilly controversy that broke earlier in the day.

After the game, won by the Yankees, 3-1, LPR got photos as the players from both teams boarded their buses for the ride to the airport and flight to Boston for the next games in the American League Championship Seriees. (When the Yankees return to the Stadium, it will be either for game six of the ALCS or Game One of the World Series.)

The sound of jeering got LPR away from the bus boarding and towards a cluster of fans shouting at a bus already boarded by
Red Sox players. At one point, these Yankee rooters were heard repeatedly chanting the name of a noted pitcher --"Randy Johnson."

After the buses departed, LPR headed towards 161st Street and the LPRmobile parked at a meter on Gerard Avenue, and took a few more photos -- of varying hot dog and pretzel prices on two sides of River Avenue, the lower prices on the other side of the tracks above River Avenue.
