Images of Waterbury, Connecticut

MARCH 2, 2008 --

LPR got out of NYC, February 25, to shed some NYC-based anxiety, and headed to Torrington, CT, and Oddo Print Shop for some photo-cards and photo enlargements.

On the way, LPR stopped  at the Waterbury municipal building, just as Mayor Michael J. Jarjura was leaving for an appointment.

The mayor chatted briefly with LPR and graciously permitted a photo op. Mayor Jarjura was re-elected to his fourth two-year term last November.

First elected Mayor in November 2001, two years ago Mayor Jarjura won on a write-in campaign. Last November, Mayor Jarjura won handily as the Democratic candidate -- a conservative Democrat, according to one report.

Driving back to NYC, LPR got the idea that Waterbury, at the junction of Interstate 84 and Route 8, and 70 miles from NYC, would be a good location for a NASCAR track, Mayor Jarjura -- NASCAR, how about that?

A Waterbury landmark -- the clock tower at the Republican-American Newspaper, once the Waterbury train station.

For People Who Went to Camps Wabigoon and Wahanda

The former camp entrance …

While in Connecticut, February 25, LPR also made a quick visit to Winsted, and drove past the old entrance to Camp Wabigoon (for boys) and Camp Wahanda (for girls).

The road now leads to private residences. LPR posts this photo to give former campers an image of the entrance in winter.

BTW -- local newspapers, February 25 reported that Ralph Nader planned a third run for president. Winsted is Mr. Nader's hometown.

LPR got this image of Ralph Nader speaking in Winsted, in December 2004.
