NYC2012 Countdown

On May 16 there were 50 days left to the day, July 6, when the International Olympic Committee chooses the site for the 2012 Games. NYC2012 marked the occasion by displaying countdown clock and banner in Manhattan's Union Square. The ceremony included presentation of NYC2012 medals to Olympians and Paralympians. LPR got this photo of Kerri Strug, Gail Marquis and Carlos Arena after they spoke in support of New York City as site for the 2012 Games. Ms. Strug received a bronze medal at the 1992
Olympics and a gold medal in the 1996 Olympics (gymnastics). Ms. Marquis won a silver medal in 1976 (basketball). Mr. Arena was on Mexico's swimming team
in the 1996 Olympics.

The 50 Day Countdown Clock, along with the Olympians photographed above, were on hand -- with other Olympians and Paralympians -- to help inaugurate.

The Red Car Removed

LPR returned, early last week, to the site of the Henry Hudson Parkway wall collapse, just before removal of the little red car that survived the landslide. This was LPR's first opportunity to see the front of the car which seemed not to have escaped damage. Two northbound lanes were open, but the northbound access lane remained blocked.

Frenchy, from Bronx River Towing, had just loaded the red car on his red truck.

Loaded up and on its way …

The access road now with an official "END" sign to indicate it remains blocked.
