Wisdom of My Father and
Chief Justice Marshall

December 5, 2009 --

One of the sayings of the late Sol Zukerman was: "No good is going to come of this." This sage observation comes to mind on word that Mr. Zarqawi is to be put on trial, in U.S. District Court, in Manhattan, based on a 911 indictment. Do the charges to be brought against this person rise no higher than allegations of felonious conduct?

But then, if Mr. Zarqawi is not to be seen as at war with the United States, U.S. officials cannot be accused of war crimes for actions allegedly taken against the accused. Can they?

What next? Civil complaint from Mr. Zarqawi against officials from a prior administration alleging police brutality?

LPR is also reminded of the warning of Chief Justice John Marshall: When we let clever minds confuse ordinary understanding, the Constitution becomes meaningless.
