Is this the end of
"The House that Ruth Built?"

JUNE 19, 2005 --

The New York Post, June 19, wondered how the new Yankee Stadium (hereinafter called YSII) will be known.

One letter writer to the Post suggested that the new ballpark will be known as the house that luxury boxes built. Another letterwriter predicted that the costs will
zoom with taxpayers footing the bills. And a third letterwriter warned, ominously, that with the end of "The House that Ruth Built," the Bambino's curse will fall on the Yankees.

Given the likelihood that plans for a YSII on the northern side of 161st Street, across from "The House that Ruth Built" have been developing for some time, perhaps that Bambino's curse has been above the Yankees since their last World Series victory -- in 2000.

There is one positive aspect to the new ballpark: it is to be located in The Bronx. Early in the Steinbrenner years, talk of a
new stadium did not necessarily accept the Bronx as the given venue.

If Yankee Stadium I is to be restored and not replaced -- and restored with its imperial-sized capacity -- when crowds in excess of 70,000 attended important pennant contests and World Series games, it will require a man whose stature in baseball is comparable to the stature
Isaac Stern held in the music world -- stature which saved Carnegie Hall from the wrecking ball.

Would New York City be a better placed if
Carnegie Hall had been torn down? LPR believes there is such a man -- but alas, he is presently in Boston -- Red Sox CEO Larry Lucchino.

Will New York City, will the Bronx, be better for the razing of "The House that Ruth Built." Is it worth razing this baseball cathedral to test if the Bambinio's curse is to relocated from Fenway Park to YSII?

LPR has a hunch that if Larry Lucchino were CEO of the New York Yankees, the team would not be preparing to end major league baseball at "The House that Ruth
Built."

LPR does not, however, suggest that George Steinbrenner be traded for Mr. Lucchino -- as that would leave treasured Fenway Park to a very cruel fate indeed.

Once there was something very special about the New York Yankees. LPR proposes that when YSII opens, the pinstripes on the YSII uniforms be replaced by rows of $$$$ signs.
