Yankee Game Time

MAY 1, 2004 --

LPR was told recently that Yankee Stadium gates open about two hours before games. Apparently, however, a lot of people descend on Stadium portals just as the game is about to get underway. LPR estimates that the waiting time for ticketholders who arrive at game time is 15 to 20 minutes. Perhaps a warning should be printed on tickets: "Arrive at game time and miss an inning of play." The crush is especially uncomfortable for parents taking small children -- as indicated by the children held on shoulders in the waiting crowd.

There seems little difficulty for ticketholders who arrive half an hour before the game. Note that ticketholders are searched; men must open their jackets. There is an express line but this line is barred to fans carrying bags.

LPR has also found that street parking is available to fans who arrive five hours

before the game. This would leave ticketholders plenty of time to take the IRT No. 4 train to 59th Street -- and Bloomingdale's.

LPR wonders how many of the season paid attendance -- some 3 million admissions -- are repeats, thus reducing the universe of Yankee gamegoers.
