MAY
7, 2006 --
LPR was
outside Yankee Stadium, April 30, to get pictures of the players
arriving for the Yankees-Toronto game--and leaving, after.
(LPR acknowledges having photos of ballpayers it does not recognize -- not even
sure if they are with the Yankees or Toronto. These photos will, LPR hopes, be
posted when ID'd.)
Here are photos of Yankees, LPR did
recognize.
The business-like attire indicates that
the Yankees were traveling to another city after the game. During a home stand,
the Yankees usually arrive at the stadium in casual clothes. As happened last
June, Jason Giambi did well at bat -- in the Yankees' April 30 win -- after being
photographed by LPR.
New Yorker editor David Remnick, promoting a compilation if his writing, on the
Imus program last week, mentioned
that, other than prizefighters, most professional athletes don't speak to journalists.
The April 30 photos perhaps indicate, also, that the athletes Mr. Remnick suggested
were very wealthy and
well-guarded, and don't seem to take much notice of their adoring fans.
Except for a few- - like Johnny Damon. As he was heading to the Yankee bus, after
the game, LPR asked former Rex Sox player Damon what kind of reception he
expected in Fenway Park (where he was to make his first appearance as a Yankee.)

Johnny
Damon gives a quick wave to his fans.
|
He did
not brush LPR aside -- answering that he did not know. It was a Yankee
staff person who shooed LPR away at that point.
LPR watched the Boston-Yankee game at the Quality Inn in Torrington, by way
of the Red Sox network. Damon did not get a
very friendly reception from the packed house (Boston won 7-3) but his first
time up he tipped his hat to his former fans.
Had LPR not seen the game on the Red
Sox network, it likely would not have learned that Jack Welch, former head
of General Electric, was to appear the following night as a Red Sox analyst.
What next? Red Sox CEO Larry Lucchino as a GE analyst?
PS: The May 2 Yankee-Red Sox game was rained out. LPR does not know if as the
rain went, so did Mr. Welch.
